During the month of September, Lenart is focusing on the character trait of respect! Students are discussing what respect means and why it is important to have self-respect, respect for others, respect for the environment, etc. Students are having thoughtful dialogue about ways that respect can be shown to others by appreciating differences, seeking to understand one another, and following the golden rule: Treat others as you want to be treated!

Leadership

During the month of April, we are focusing on Leadership! This is a very important skill to develop in school and outside of school. Students have participated in activities to compare varying leadership styles, had discussions about what traits are most important in leadership, and analyzed the meaning of various leadership quotes.

This website has an excellent video of students discussing leadership among other interesting quotes and conversation starters:

Positive Attitude

During the month of November, I will be visiting classrooms to talk about ways  students can maintain a positive attitude.  For example, in 1st grade we discussed “NED” to build a positive attitude:

Never Give Up

Encourage Others

Do Your Best

“Positive Attitude” is the Student of the Month trait for November, and something that can make a large difference in the lives of Lenart students and the school environment.

“Keep your face always toward the sunshine – and shadows will fall behind you.”
― Walt Whitman

“Life is a bowl of cherries. Some cherries are rotten while others are good; its your job to throw out the rotten ones and forget about them while you enjoy eating the ones that are good! There are two kinds of people: those who choose to throw out the good cherries and wallow in all the rotten ones, and those who choose to throw out all the rotten ones and savor all the good ones.”

Classroom Visits

During the month of September, I visited classrooms to discuss the character trait of Respect. Some students held discussions, others role-played scenarios, while others created drawings and/or class books. There is no doubt that the students of Lenart understand the importance of Respect!

During the month of October, I am visiting classrooms to discuss honesty. The National Junior Honor Society students have prepared skits to share with classes, while other classes are creating their own skits. Honesty is an essential character trait that should be emphasized in the school setting. The October student of the month selections will be based on honesty, so please talk about this with your children at home, also!
